Who we are and why this school exists
The Story School is run by Project Scotland and Glasgow Story Church. It puts solid, unhurried teaching in the hands of anyone who wants to follow Jesus, whether they have been in church for thirty years or thirty minutes.
Our story
Project Scotland
Project Scotland is a church-planting movement and a hub for mission and training across Scotland. Our vision is to see the transformation of Scotland by the power of the living God. The way we go about it is simple to say and slow to do: fulfilling the Great Commission by living out the Great Commandment. People are reached as they are loved. The Story School is part of The Story churches network, and its aim is to serve our churches and partners.
Two passages we keep coming back to
Isaiah 43:19 opens, "See, I am doing a new thing!" (NIV), and goes on to promise a way through the wilderness and water in the desert. Isaiah 58 describes the fast God actually wants, and then says that such a people "will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail" (Isaiah 58:11, NIV), and that they will rebuild what has lain in ruins for generations and be called repairers of broken walls. Those two passages are what we are asking God for in Scotland, and they are why a training school exists at all: ruins are rebuilt by people, and people have to be taught.
Glasgow Story Church
Glasgow Story Church is our first plant. It was founded in 2023 and meets in Parkhead, Glasgow. Its own words put it best: God is writing His story in Glasgow. We believe He wants you to be part of it! It is an evangelical church with Wesleyan influence, and its mission is to love God, love people and make disciples. Alongside it, The Story Coffee is a connection point with the local community — a safe space to belong, even before you believe. That sentence is also the reason the first course in this school is called Belong.
What we hold to
- The authority of the Bible.
- The continuing gifts of the Holy Spirit.
- The importance of evangelism and church multiplication.
- The centrality of prayer and fasting.
- Intentional discipleship.
- Supporting mission and church planting.
- Pursuing a holy lifestyle.
What this school is for
Planting churches is not only about gathering people. It is about teaching them. A movement can only go as far as its people have been discipled, and discipleship does not happen by accident or by osmosis. So we wrote down what we would want every person in every one of our churches to have been taught, put it in the order grace actually works, and made it free. A leader in a new plant with no staff and no budget can hand someone three courses and a kitchen table, and that is enough to start.
What it is not
- It is not a qualification. Nothing here is accredited, and finishing a course does not license you for anything.
- It is not a substitute for a church. The discussion questions only work if there are other people in the room. Watching videos on your own is not discipleship.
- It is not a product. We are not selling anything, there is no paid tier, and there is nothing to upgrade to.
- It is not a test of whether you are in or out. You can be halfway through Belong and still be working out whether you believe a word of it. That is allowed, and you are still welcome.
- It is not the last word on anything. Three courses cannot hold everything God has said. It is a floor to stand on, not a ceiling.
